Basketry rods are sold in 454gr (1 lb) bundles at the regular price. When you order a total of 4.54kg (10 lb) or more, you receive a 20% volume discount. You can mix and match different rod lengths within your order to reach the 4.54kg (10 lb) minimum and receive the discount.
Because willow is a natural product, the number of rods per bundle will vary depending on the variety, length, and diameter of the rods. Our 180-210cm (6–7 ft) bundles contain a natural mix of willow rods ranging from approximately 180- 210 cm (6 to 7 feet) in length. Individual rods may vary in length within this range.
Our brown willow is harvested during the dormant season and naturally air-dried with the bark left intact. In basketry, the term brown willow refers to dried willow with its bark on—it does not necessarily describe the colour of the rods. Depending on the variety, the bark may be shades of brown, green, yellow, red, purple, olive, grey, or nearly black.
Before weaving, simply soak the willow until it becomes flexible again. Once rehydrated, it regains the suppleness needed for weaving while retaining the strength that makes willow such an exceptional basketry material.
