When coppiced annually, the rods can reach up to 12 feet in length, with minimal side branching making them particularly useful for living willow projects and other applications requiring long, straight stems.

The new growth has delicate pinkish-red tips, while the stems develop a beautiful mix of brown, yellow, and light green tones as they mature. The plant also produces numerous small grey to rose-coloured catkins early in the season, adding interest to the landscape.

Rubikins is an excellent choice for living willow structures and privacy hedges. It can also be used for basketry, although its long, slender rods can be somewhat challenging to work with.
