Shetland

Breed: Shetland For over 1,000 years, Shetland sheep have roamed the windswept Shetland Islands of Scotland, with their ancestors believed to have arrived with Viking settlers. Traditionally raised by island crofters for their wool and meat, these hardy little sheep thrived in the rugged northern climate. Their exceptionally fine fleece became famous for delicate lace knitting and the intricate patterns of traditional Fair Isle knitwear. Shetland wool is known for its remarkable natural diversity, traditionally described as eleven colours and thirty patterns.

This Shetland fleece, sourced from a farm in Southern Ontario, features creamy blonde wool with delicate curls and a soft, silky sheen. Subtle grey-blue tones peek through from the darker roots, creating a beautiful contrast against the lighter fibres.
